What is e-Business?

We are speaking a new lingo and it seems that the terms keep getting fancier: Internet, Intranet, Extranet, eCommerce and eBusiness. What is the difference between e-Commerce and e-Business?

E-commerce, or electronic commerce, is conducting business communications and transactions via computers and over networks. It is the buying and selling of goods and services through digital communication. E-commerce also includes transactions on the World Wide Web and Internet, and modes such as electronic funds transfer, smart cards, and digital cash.

E-business includes e-commerce but also covers internal processes such as production, inventory management, product development, risk management, finance, knowledge management and human resources. E-business strategy is more complex, more focused on internal processes, and aimed at cost savings and improvements in efficiency, productivity and cost savings.
